Main Street Clinic has been serving the medical needs of Loughrea and the surrounding East Galway area since 1987. Our aim is to promote health and wellbeing in a friendly and protected environment. We currently have 6 doctors and 4 nurses employed in the clinic, with the aim to have an additional doctor joining later this year.

Our Story

Dr John & Margaret Flaherty at the opening of new Main Street Clinic building, March 2010
Dr. John and Margaret Flaherty set up practice on the Main Street in the basement of their home after Dr. Dyar retired in 1987. In 1999, Dr. Flaherty decided to expand and take on a new doctor and also a secretary to help with the expanding business.
Dr. John Kilraine was the fist GP employed in 1999 and since then the practice has grown from strength to strength. In 2006, John and Margaret Flaherty put plans together to expand again by building a purpose-built medical centre at the back of their own home/surgery. In March 2010 this medical practice “Main Street Clinic” was opened and since then it has provided patients with a very comfortable and safe environment.
Dr. John Flaherty retired from General Practice in January 2023 after giving 36 years service. Margaret had previously retired in June 2020 after working for 33 years. We thank John & Margaret for their hard work, care, kindness and sincere dedication to their patients, work colleagues and people of Loughrea and the surrounding areas. We wish them both a long, happy & healthy retirement.
